Professor Frank Garcia

BENEFITS OF MASPETH JIU-JITSU
GI vs. NOGI CLASSES
These two terms, Gi and No Gi, are very common in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community. Traditionally, Jiu-Jitsu was taught with the use of a Gi, which is another word that symbolizes the same as a Uniform or a Kimono. Gi classes allow and teach the students to grab and use the opponents clothing to defend or submit. Conversely, in No Gi classes, the students can wear a pair of shorts, leggings or spats and a t-shirt or a rashguard and in this class clothing is not used to defend or submit.
Maspeth Jiu-Jitsu classes are taught in both GI and NOGI. For Gi classes a mandatory Jiu-Jitsu Gi (Uniform or Kimono) is required.
Look at the schedule below for the days and times of the GI and NOGI classes. However, keep in mind that if students are training for specific tournaments class types (GI or NOGI) can change.
